Statement

The poem ‘Tongue Tied’ by Patricia Beers describes the almost unbearable results of a lifetime of keeping silent. The two-sided accordion book is hinge-bound with 16 penny nails and housed in a nail/mesh and wood structure. Unless handled carefully this book can easily cause physical injury and pain.

Text is laserprint on lace paper. Alicia Bailey’s photographs, which allude to bondage and repression, are inkjet printed on sumi paper. Objects and text initially hidden by the photographs are revealed as the reader interacts with this book.
